The purpose of a deposit is to encourage people to act in a certain way. Unlike a fee for a service, this program should be free for you as long as you complete the program (e.g. attend the 4 live workshops and meet with your mentor at least 3 times).
Similarly to a deposit you would make on renting a house or apartment, the purpose of the deposit is to encourage you to act in a certain way (e.g. to not trash the house) and if you do break the rules of your deposit, you lose your deposit (some landlords are better at returning the deposits than others and that is a discussion for a different time). The point is that the goal of a deposit to encourage you to act in a certain way and with Ambition In Motion’s mentor program, it is very clear. If you attend all 4 youtube live workshops (we count your attendance by your comments during the workshop) and meet with your mentor at least 3 times over the course of the semester (there is a schedule feature on your dashboard after you login where you can log your mentor meetings), you get your deposit back. If you don’t, then you don’t.
The reason why the deposit exists is because when you sign up for the mentor program, your mentor is expecting you to meet with them and be prepared. If you decide to not meet with your mentor the 3 times or attend the 4 live workshops (which prepare you for the mentor meetings), it makes the program look bad and has a direct correlation to that mentor not signing up in future semesters. This means less opportunities for future students to get mentored.
Once you sign up for the program and the sign up deadline has passed, you are matched with your mentor and your mentor is notified. Your mentor is expecting you to connect with them and come prepared. If you decide to not show up or show up unprepared, it makes the program look bad and increases the likelihood the mentor doesn’t sign up to be a mentor in the future.
What if I signed up but decided to not to utilize the program after the sign up deadline has passed?
See above. Your mentor has already been notified and is expecting you.
What if I didn’t realize how busy my schedule would be and I am struggling to manage my time?
See above. We are expecting you to carve time for this and consider this a priority. The time commitment is about 1 hour per week.
What if my mentor doesn’t respond to my initial email right away and I miss a workshop?
See above. If your mentor doesn’t respond to your initial email, send another, send a text and leave a voicemail. There is a chance your email went to spam so additional forms of outreach may be required to get in touch. If you still can’t get in touch with your mentor, email us and we will identify a solution. Don’t miss workshops.
What if I feel like I already know everything I need to know about the topic of the workshop and don’t want to attend?
We bring in guest speakers from around the world who are CEO’s of major companies, best-selling authors, esteemed career coaches, and overall leaders in their respective professions. Their unique backgrounds and perspectives provide a wide array of guidance and insight. Despite discussing a topic you feel very comfortable with, we are confident you will learn something that you didn’t know before.
Are there any allowed reasons for why I could miss a workshop and get credit?
This is on a case by case basis in which you can reach out to us and share your situation. Common cases that are not allowed reasons for missing a workshop:
- I have an exam on one of the workshop nights and want to study the nights prior which are also during workshop times. Why? You have had the entire semester to study and prepare for this exam. Taking one hour out of your day to attend a youtube live session will not make or break your exam score and if you believe it will, then you procrastinated and didn’t manage your time properly.
- My school is on break during the days of the workshop. Why? This isn’t class. This is the real world. You aren’t losing access to wifi when you are on break so you can still attend the workshop.
Can I still continue with the program even if I miss a workshop?
Yes! Absolutely yes. You didn’t sign up for this program so you could give $50, earn 0% interest over the course of the semester, and get that $50 back. You signed up for this program so you could learn and grow as a professional. If you miss a workshop, yes, you do lose your deposit, but make the most of this opportunity. Attend the other workshops, watch the recordings, and keep meeting with your mentor. Our goal is to help you grow and put you in the best position to make the most educated decision about your career path.
